Forget about driving and take a direct train from Salerno to Pompeii – you’ll get from city centre to city centre in no time at all! The average journey time by train between Salerno and Pompeii is 41 minutes, with around 33 trains covering a distance of approximately 15 miles (24 km) every half an hour every day.
To get to Pompeii from Salerno by train, head to Salerno’s main train station – it’s in the old city centre – and board one of Trenitalia’s regional trains going to Pompeii. You’ll arrive at Pompeii train station, which is also in the town centre and is only 10 minutes away from the ruins. Don’t miss the House of the Faun, one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings in the city, or Villa dei Misteri, which is famous for its series of beautiful frescoes depicting the Dionysian mysteries.

Trenitalia's regional trains do not offer an entertainment portal on board. However, you can make use of your internet data, as well as charge your devices thanks to the power outlets that are available at your seat.
Kids under 4 can travel for free if they’re accompanied by an adult and a seat is not assigned to them. Children aged 4-11 can get 50% off. Older children will need to have a full-price ticket.

Most of the train companies across Europe release their tickets around three to six months in advance, many of which can be cheaper the earlier you book. If you know the dates you want to travel, you may be able to find some cheaper train tickets from Salerno to Pompei by booking early.§
Many of the train services in Europe are also popular commuter services, lots of train companies increase ticket prices during “peak hours” (generally between 06:00 – 10:00 and 15:00 – 19:00 on weekdays). If you can, consider travelling outside of peak hours to find lower priced tickets.
