If you're getting the train to the Royal International Air Tattoo, the best station is Swindon, which is served by fast, direct trains from London, Oxford, Wales and the west. You can reach RAF Fairford via a dedicated shuttle bus from Swindon bus station, which is a five-minute walk away via Wellington Street and Manchester Road. The shuttle costs £3 per person. About Royal International Air Tattoo
Every July, the Royal International Air Tattoo lights up the skies over RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. This is the world's largest military air show, and has been supporting the Royal Air Forces Association for over four decades - originally set up by two volunteers in 1971, today it is organised by a 3,500 plus team of aviation and event management experts. A charitable event with entertainment at its core, the tattoo features hundreds of military aircraft from all over the world, from RAF Typhoons to the Russian Mil Mi-24 helicopter gunship. The weekend's highlight is without doubt the daily flying displays, which are nothing short of fantastic - coloured vapours fill the skies as all manner of aircraft loop and soar overhead. And there's more than just aircraft - you can drop in on the Vintage Village, packed with retro vehicles, shopping and entertainment, or watch and try out action sports in the Adrenaline Zone. So if you're into flying machines, high-speed excitement or just a great family day out, this is the place to be.
