Travelling to the North Norfolk Railway by train? Take a Greater Anglia service to Sheringham station and you’ll find it just across the road! It only takes a minute from the station to reach the Railway. Step out onto Station Road and you’ll see the charming yellow and green Sheringham East signal box on the opposite side of the street, cross over and head along Station Approach until you get to the ticket office on your left-hand side.
The North Norfolk Railway – also known as The Poppy Line – is one of the most scenic heritage railways in the UK and has been running between Sheringham and Holt since 1887. As well as offering dining, afternoon tea and gin train experiences along the line, you can also become a steam or diesel train driver, guard or signal box operator for the day.

A trip along the Poppy Line means you get to visit three charming stations: Sheringham, Weybourne and Holt, each of which has their own personalities and areas to explore. Weybourne and Holt have their own model railways and Sheringham has a child’s play coach that kids will love.
Feeling hungry? The North Norfolk Railway runs a number of delicious dining experiences, including Pudding & Prosecco, Fish & Chips, Cream Tea and Gin trains so you can enjoy the scenic countryside views whilst tucking into your favourite dish. There are even Murder Mystery evenings for those who want to practice their detective skills.
Depending on whether you’re visiting for an experience, special event, or just want to ride the rails, you can spend between half a day or a whole day at the North Norfolk Railway. If you’re just taking a trip from Sheringham to Holt and back, it usually takes around 1 hour on a diesel train or around 1 hour 15 minutes on a steam train.
