Tucked into the West Yorkshire countryside is the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (KWVR), a five-mile heritage railway line running through the Worth Valley. The heritage line is connected to the national rail network at Keighley station, so it’s fabulously easy to reach. There are regular Northern Rail services to Keighley from Bradford, Skipton and Leeds.
Lovingly restored by volunteers, the KWVR is a must-visit for railway enthusiasts. Steam train services run on every weekend of the year; in summer, there are daily services. Along the line you’ll find five quaint stations – complete with vintage signal boxes, gas-lit platforms, engine sheds and picnic areas.
More about the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway
Beginning at Keighley, the heritage line passes through Ingrow West, Damems, Oakworth, Haworth and terminates at Oxenhope. Before hopping on to a steam train, have a nosey around Keighley station. At the end of Platform 3 you’ll find a turntable and a superb signal box. Most KWVR services depart from Platform 4, which has been preserved with all the trappings of a classic railway platform, including a glass canopy.
Visit the KWVR’s official website for more information.
