Yes! Most trains should be running as normal over the Coronation bank holiday weekend between Saturday 6th May and Monday 8th May 2023. However, it’s important to check your route before you travel in case there are any engineering works taking place.
Don’t forget, you can view live train time information by searching for your journey in our app.
The King’s Coronation Ceremony takes place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May 2023. If you’re thinking about trains to London for the big day, be aware that it’ll likely be very busy in the city itself and on trains running to and from the capital.
If you’re planning on celebrating into the night, you can check the times of the last trains out of London using our Journey Planner or on our app.
As well as the Coronation Ceremony itself, there will be a Coronation Concert in Windsor on Sunday 7th May. Tickets for this event have already been allocated via a ballot. If you were lucky enough to get a ticket, you can check how to get to and from Windsor for the concert with us. Bear in mind that as it’s on a Sunday, trains and London Underground services will finish earlier than during the week.
If you didn’t manage to get a ticket, you can still watch the concert online or on TV. Remember: there are no other ceremonial events in Windsor for the Coronation. Why not read on for more information about other events taking place to celebrate the Coronation across the UK?

In May 2023, King Charles III will be the first monarch to be crowned in the United Kingdom for 70 years. His Coronation is an historic event in the nation’s calendar and there are plenty of events to get involved in to celebrate the day. We’ve curated a list of 6 events across the King’s Coronation Weekend, including the Coronation Procession itself, live screenings of the Coronation and celebratory activity days – there’s something for all the family. And of course, we’ll let you know how to get there by train!
After the Coronation Service takes place at 11am at Westminster Abbey, there will be a Coronation Procession towards Buckingham Palace, including the newly crowned King Charles III as well as members of the Armed Forces from the UK, British Overseas Territories and the Commonwealth. Well-wishers line the route down the Mall (the road between Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square), so you may be able to catch a glimpse of the new King and Queen Consort as they travel past in the Gold State Coach.
You might travel by train, but how does the royal family get around? Head over to the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace over the Coronation weekend to find out more about the carriages used in the Coronation Procession. You can also go on a tour of the Mews to learn about the horses that live there, or get creative and take part in some arts and crafts activities in the Livery Room.
If you’re looking to get into the celebratory spirit early, the Palace of Holyroodhouse is hosting a Coronation-inspired activity day on the early May bank holiday (1st May). The Palace is King Charles III’s official Scottish residence, so it’s the perfect place to celebrate this historic event. There are lots of crafts for the kids to have a go at, from creating their own crown and flag to designing a commemorative Coronation badge and invitation. And there’s plenty to see at the Palace too, such as the Throne Room and the Palace Gardens.
Many places up and down the country are broadcasting the Coronation Ceremony on big screens so that the general public can come together to celebrate this historic day. There are screenings across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, so there’s likely to be one near you. Some places may also broadcast the Coronation Concert live from Windsor Castle on Sunday 7th May, where you can watch famous stars and community choirs perform to celebrate the Coronation.
A favourite with the royals, the Sandringham Estate will be hosting its own celebrations for the Coronation. If you want to watch the Coronation Ceremony, it will be screened in the Royal Parkland. Or why not tuck into a Coronation-inspired afternoon tea in the restaurant? And there’s something for the kids too, with a play area, nature trail, and vintage funfair on offer. Please note, booking may be required for some activities.
Whether you want to watch the Coronation Ceremony on the big screen, be entertained by live performers or sample a range of tasty street food, Wembley Park’s Coronation Celebration has it all. Plus, there’s a dedicated area for the little ones, with family-friendly activities such as face painting and life-sized board games. This event has something for everyone!
