Glasgow to Exeter by train will take you from the Scottish Lowlands, south through the Midlands and into Birmingham. You'll then pass through Somerset, travelling along the Devon coast. The first stint of your journey will be from Glasgow Central to Birmingham New Street on Avanti West Coast (formerly Virgin Trains). All Avanti West Coast (formerly Virgin Trains) trains on this line come with a power socket seat on request, a buffet cart or dining carriage called The Foodbar, and a Quiet Coach. There's complimentary WiFi when sat in First Class, while those in Standard can pay a small fee for the service. From Birmingham New Street to Exeter St David’s, you’ll be travelling with CrossCountry. All trains on this leg come with First Class options. There's a buffet car on most trains, if not, then a buffet cart will provide an at-seat service. Most CrossCountry trains on this route come with a Quiet Coach, while those in First Class can enjoy complimentary WiFi (Standard passengers must pay a small fee for the service.
After leaving Glasgow, you can enjoy a scenic trip through the Scottish Lowlands before entering England and travelling through Cumbria and Lancashire, stopping along the way at Crewe, Preston and Carlisle among others. After this, you’ll arrive into Birmingham New Street for your change onto a CrossCountry train towards Exeter St David's. During the journey, make sure to get a window seat as you don’t want to miss the rolling hills of Worcestershire and Gloucestershire as you leave Birmingham. The further south you go into Somerset and Devon, the flatter the land becomes, with farmlands and animals taking centre stage. After that, you’ll reach the cathedral city of Exeter.
