There are no direct trains running from Cardiff to Newcastle but there are a number of travel options and train operators covering this route. The quickest way would be to change at Bristol Parkway and take another train on to Newcastle. Great Western Railway, CrossCountry, Transport for Wales and TransPennine all serve this route and how many stops you make will depend on which operator you use.
CrossCountry trains all come with a First Class option. There's a buffet car on most trains, if not, then there will be a buffet cart providing at-seat service. Most CrossCountry trains on this route feature a Quiet Coach and there's free WiFi if you travel in First Class, with a small fee for those in Standard.
On all their long-distance services, Transport for Wales offer a range of snacks and beverage via an at-seat buffet cart service. Free WiFi is available on all trains. While each train can normally accept only two bikes per journey, reservation during peak times is advised.
The train from Cardiff to Newcastle takes you through the heart of England, crossing the Cotswolds – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), before heading to Worcester, Birmingham, Sheffield, Leeds, York and finally Newcastle.
