Trains to Westhoughton

One of two stations serving the town of Westhoughton, Westhoughton Railway Station sees regular Northern trains operating on the Manchester-Southport Lines and Buxton Lines. Trains from Westhoughton run twice an hour, westbound to Wigan Wallgate with one continuing to Southport, and once-hourly services to Manchester Airport via Piccadilly as well as Manchester Victoria respectively.  

A lonely station, Westhoughton alone serves the connecting line between the Manchester-Preston Line and the Manchester-Southport Line. The station is unstaffed and has very limited provisions, with only a newsagent opposite the station for refreshments and no toilet facilities. A large car park is located close to the station. Tickets may be purchased from the self-service ticket machine installed at the station, and train running information is provided via digital departure screens on the platforms. There is step-free but very steep access to the Wigan platform only; the Bolton platform is accessed via a stepped ramp.
