Trains to Wareham

Wareham, a Dorset market town that stands between the rivers Piddle and Frome, is on the South Western Main Line between London Waterloo and Weymouth. Its red-brick station dates back to 1887, and retains many Victorian features, including decorative brickwork and platform canopies. From 2016 it will be reinstated as a stopping point for steam and diesel trains on the Swanage Railway heritage line, a restored line between nearby Corfe Castle and Swanage.

The station is located in an area known as Northport, which is just to the north of town, beyond the River Piddle. A fifteen-minute walk south will bring you to the town centre, marked by the crossroads of the rather literally named North Street, South Street, East Street and West Street. Around the edges of town are Wareham's oldest features - it is surrounded on three sides by 9th-century walls built under Alfred the Great. They're now grassy mounds, but can still be followed for an easy local walk.
