Right at the eastern edge of Staffordshire, Uttoxeter is a small market and commuter town well known as the home of the Midlands Grand National. Uttoxeter station is right next to the racecourse, offering racegoers direct access to the action. Not far from the town are the picturesque River Dove and stunning natural landscapes of the Peak District. Uttoxeter is also the closest train station for Alton Towers, one of the UK's most popular theme parks.
Trains first came to the town in 1848 and, over time, as new lines were developed, three stations were built. The current station, the only one remaining, opened in 1881, although none of the original buildings survive. Situated on the Crewe-Derby Line which runs through Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire, Uttoxeter station usually has one service per hour in either direction with extra trains laid on at busy race times.
