Trains to Southend Airport

With its futuristic-looking footbridge traversing the purpose-built two-track line, the glittering modern marvel of Southend Airport train station opened in 2011, after 75 years' wait. It was in the 1930s, when the airport opened, that Southend's then mayor remarked the need for a railway station as well. Better late than never. Built in just 23 months, the station is Stobart Rail's biggest project to date. The company completely designed and constructed the line, discovering Iron Age fire pits and rare species of spider during construction. The station boasts an impressive turnaround time, promising to have hand-luggage-only plane passengers on the station platform a mere 15 minutes after touchdown. It's certainly doable with the station being just 100 paces from the airport terminal.

London Southend is one of Britain’s main airports and lots of passengers take advantage of its direct train links with London to get there. This can save both time and money. The airport is 42 miles east of London city centre, located in Essex county. Greater Anglia trains run direct from London Liverpool Street to Southend Airport, stopping in Stratford station on the way. This provides easy access to the airport from Canterbury, Oxford, Brighton and many other cities and towns in South East England.
