South Gyle railway station lies on the western outskirts of Edinburgh. It’s a relatively new for British stations having only been opened in the mid ‘80s by ScotRail. It might be a small two-platform station, but that doesn’t stop it serving almost half a million passengers. Today, the station and the trains that pass through on the Fife Circle Line are operated by Abellio ScotRail. Facilities at the station include digital passenger information displays, modern waiting shelters, step-free access to both platforms and ticket machines, but little else. There are two trains an hour direct to Edinburgh Waverley in 13 minutes and northbound to Inverkeithing in 14 minutes.
If you’re disembarking at South Gyle, a good place to start exploring the area is the Gyle Park just a short walk from the station. If you fancy a little retail therapy, there are few places better in the city than the Gyle Shopping Centre which is stacked with high street fashion shops, electronic stores and eateries.
