Sole Street railway station is used by the little community of Sole Street and the surrounding villages in Kent just 25 miles or so south of central London. It was opened in the second half of the 19th century along the Chatham Main Line which starts from London Victoria. There are two platforms, which are managed by Southeastern and serve around 60,000 passengers a year. The original brick station building is still used as a ticket office today and there are self-service machines to use outside of its opening hours. There’s a wooden waiting shelter on one of the platforms and bench seating, but little else in the way of facilities. There’s an hourly direct train to London Victoria in 52 minutes and Canterbury East in 50 minutes.
After you’ve had a bite to eat at The Railway Inn and Railway Pétanque Club, you could go walking along the spectacular trails that crisscross the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
