Trains to Skipton arrive at a beautiful station in a beautiful setting. Passengers disembark beneath Victorian awnings, looking out towards the hills and moors that surround the town. Skipton has long been known as the Ôgateway to the Dales', and the Yorkshire Dales National Park boundary lies just a couple of miles north of the station. Regular bus services leave from just outside for Grassington and Buckden, both within the National Park. Skipton itself has been voted one of the best places to live in Britain on a number of occasions, and as the focal point for much of the surrounding region, the market town has a bustling centre and thriving shopping scene around the High Street. Beyond the shops, the 12th century Skipton Castle is an incredibly well-preserved medieval fortress that has become one of the town's most popular tourist attractions.
The ticket hall leads onto platform 2, where you will also find the toilets. Platform 1 is at the end of the station buildings, while platforms 3 and 4 are reached via a subway with ramps for step-free access. From the station there is a footpath to the town centre. On the opposite side of the buildings from the path is the bus stop with connections to the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
