Trains to Severn Beach

Severn Beach terminus railway station, used by the little community of the same name, is perched along the banks of the River Seven around 13 miles north west of Bristol city centre. It was opened at the turn of the 20th century by Great Western Railway who still manage the station and the trains that pass through today. Originally, it was a freighter stop used for goods traffic, though it began to serve passengers two decades later. Unfortunately, the station fell out of importance and the original station buildings were demolished some time ago. It’s a basic station with one platform and no facilities for buying tickets, so they must either be bought online in advance or on board the train with the conductor. Facilities include little more than a modern waiting shelter and timetable posters. There is an irregular hourly service direct to Bristol Temple Meads in 42 minutes, but this drops off to just two departures a day during the winter months.

When you step off at Severn Beach, you could make a beeline for the stretch of coastline that gives the station its name. A concrete walkway along the water’s edge and the adjoining green park provide some fine views over the river.
