Runcorn East train station has long been used by the eastern neighbourhoods of Runcorn in Cheshire. Compared to most British railways stations, it’s relatively new, having only opened in the early ‘80s. Interestingly, in 2008, the station was officially adopted by the North Cheshire Rail Users group under a scheme by Arriva Trains Wales. There's a ticket office open in the mornings between Monday and Saturday, though there are facilities for buying tickets when the office is closed. The station’s two platforms both have waiting shelters, a PA system, digital passenger information displays and bench seating. There is an hourly direct train to Chester and an irregular hourly departure to Manchester Piccadilly.
There are several historical attractions near Runcorn East including the Norton Water Tower, a Grade II listed National Heritage structure built in the late 19th-century. Alternatively, visit the Halton Miniature Railway to ride along the mini-gauge tracks.
