Trains to Roughton Road

Roughton Road railway station lies just outside the coastal town of Cromer along the Bittern Line in Norfolk. The name comes from the road next to it, not Roughton village which is actually several miles from the station. It’s a relatively modern station having only opened in the mid ‘80s with just a single platform managed by Abellio Greater Anglia. There is no ticket office or facilities for buying tickets, so passengers need to buy them in advance or on board the train with the guard. Facilities are sparse at the basic station, but include a waiting shelter, timetable posters and metal rails used for locking bicycles. There’s an hourly direct train to Cromer in 6 minutes and Norwich in 42 minutes.

Roughton Road is an exciting place to disembark. Within a few minutes’ walk of the station, you can immerse yourself in The Broads, the country’s newest national park. Alternatively, if you’ve brought the kids, you could take them to the Amazona Zoo to see more than 200 critters from South America or down to the beach and the promenade attractions nearby.
