Pollokshaws East train station opened in 1894. Today, it serves the mainly residential area of Pollokshaws on the south side of Glasgow. The station lies on the Cathcart Circle Line between Langside and Shawlands. Train services from this station are operated by ScotRail who provide one train per hour between Glasgow Central and Newton and one train per hour each way on the Cathcart Circle line. Services to Glasgow take as little as 12 minutes, and the fastest train to Newton takes 18 minutes.
The Pollokshaws area is mainly residential, with red sandstone tenement buildings and modern equivalents. The most notable former resident was John Maclean, a revolutionary socialist of the Red Clydeside era.
Pollokshaws East train station has two platforms in an island configuration. The station is above street level with no step-free access to the platforms. Entrances to the station are found on Coustonholm Road and Kilmarnock Road. Local bus service connections can be found on the Kilmarnock Road.
