Pilning train station lies on the Cardiff to Taunton Line and is the last station on the England side before the Severn Tunnel. The station serves the village of Pilning, South Gloucestershire. The station was electrified with the Great Western Mainline. However, during the works to modernise the line the footbridge was removed; this means that there is now no access to westbound services on platform 2. Pilning train station has step-free access to the eastbound platform 1. There is no ticket office at this station so tickets need to be paid for in advance of travel or on the train.
Great Western Railway provides two trains eastbound towards Taunton on Saturdays: one in the morning and one mid-afternoon. The fastest journey to Bristol Temple Meads is 20 minutes. The nearby Severn Tunnel was completed in 1886: the work of the English Civil Engineer, Sir John Hawkshaw. Until 1987, the 7km tunnel was the longest underwater tunnel in the world.
