Trains to Paisley Gilmour Street

Paisley Gilmour Street train station is one of four stations serving Paisley. Operated by Abellio ScotRail, it is the town’s largest and busiest station. The station itself is located above the street, within a short walk of the town centre and shopping areas. Train journeys to Glasgow Central from Paisley train station take a minimum of 10 minutes. Many local bus connections also depart from Paisley to surrounding areas, including a service to Glasgow Airport which leaves from the station. There is a taxi rank at the station entrance.  

In the first half of the 19th century, Paisley became famed for its production of paisley patterned shawl; their innovative hand loom process enabled them to work with more colours than other producers. A collection of shawls and handlooms from the period are on display today at the Paisley Museum and Art Galleries, just a short walk from the station. 

The station building is category B listed. Built for the Glasgow and Paisley Joint Railway in 1840, it originally had two platforms but these were later expanded to the four that exist today. The station now has a staffed ticket office, self-service ticket machines and an ATM, and there is step free access up to all platforms. There are also vending machines, a café and a newsagent in the station buildings.
