When you arrive by train to Lytham station, you're just five minutes' walk from the picturesque Fylde coast. But before you head down the shop-lined Park Street to see the sea (or more accurately the estuary of the River Ribble), spare a minute to take a look at the ornate original station building, which dates back to 1863 and now lives on as the Station Tavern. On the seafront, you'll find the wide open space of the Green and the surprising sight of the bright white tower and working sails of the Lytham Windmill.
The area's famous golf courses are all within easy reach of the station, with the most famous of all - the Royal Lytham & St Anne's, which often hosts the British Open - about three miles away to the west. Regular services from Lytham station include Blackpool South, Kirkham, Preston and Colne.
