Just on the border between West and North Yorkshire, Knottingley Railway Station sees regular Northern trains serving the town of Knottingley on the Pontefract Line. Trains from Knottingley operate on an hourly schedule both directions, to Leeds and Wakefield Kirkgate via Pontefract Monkhill as well as a limited number of services to Goole. On Sundays, trains run every two hours as far as Leeds, where they terminate. Additionally, due to the station’s positioning at the edge of West Yorkshire, many services on the Pontefract Line terminate at Knottingley.
Like many stations on the Pontefract Line, Knottingley’s original railway buildings have long been demolished and now has reduced but decent facilities. Standard waiting shelters with bench seating provide comfort for customers on each platform, and train running information is provided via digital display screens, timetable posters, and customer help points. There is step-free access to platform 2 from the car park; platform 1 is accessed by steps only.
