Kettering train station is located south-west of the town centre of Kettering in Northamptonshire.
Trains to Kettering pull up in a splendid station dating back to 1857. Regarded as one of the top remaining examples of Midland architecture, the platforms' original cast-iron columns and glass canopies were restored by Railtrack in 2000. At the time of rail's arrival, Kettering's boot and shoe industry was suffering from the recession, but the station opened new avenues of trade and the industry's prosperity was soon restored until the end of the century.
The line was linked to London in 1867 and has catered to city commuters ever since, with modern-day trains leaving for St Pancras every 20 minutes.
A trip to Kettering isn't complete without a wander around the town's Heritage Quarter in Sheep Street, and the Manor House Museum is also a must-visit to take in the artwork of one of Kettering's most famous residents, the painter Sir Alfred East. For children, Britain's second-oldest theme park, Wicksteed Park, remains a star attraction to this day, with over one million visitors per year.
