Hillside train station is the local train station for anyone visiting or attending an event at the Royal Birkdale Golf course. The station sits in the south of Southport and offers daily services to the seaside town and Hunts Cross. The station has two platforms platform 1 is for southbound trains and platform 2 is used for northbound trains. Leaving from platform 1 you can head to Hunts Cross the journey time for this route is around 58 minutes. At platform 2 trains arrive every 15 minutes Monday to Saturday and every 30 minutes on Sundays en route to Southport station.

Entrance to the station is via Waterloo Road. The station has a manned ticket office from Monday through to Sunday. Facilities available for passengers to use include waiting rooms on both platforms, vending machine and extra outdoor seating. The station offers a drop off point outside the main building.
