Rail arrived in Hereford in 1853, but it wasn't until 1893 that passenger rail services were all concentrated at Hereford train station, the station that still stands today.

The warm and welcoming red-brick building, with its large gables and expansive Gothic-style windows, acts as a fine preview for the tremendous cathedral that awaits - just a ten-minute walk away. As a cathedral city, Hereford has a typically tranquil atmosphere, but the hustle and bustle of the regular markets keep the heart of the city that rests on the River Wye alive and kicking. Hereford dates back to Saxon times, and today visitors take in a rich mix of British heritage and modern shopping facilities. Hereford also has a large number of museums, including The Old House and the tempting Cider Museum. The Three Choirs Festival, Europe's oldest musical event, takes place here every three years.

Hereford station has two entrances. The first entrance is from a car park, which leads directly onto platforms 3 and 4 via a ramp. The second and main entrance enters a concourse with a ticket counter on the left and access to the platforms. A footbridge connects to platform 1 and 2.
