Trains to Haslemere travel along the Portsmouth Direct Line between London Waterloo and Portsmouth. The station opened in 1859, and is about a ten-minute walk from the town centre - the walk takes you along Lower Street, which links to the High Street and its collection of shops and pubs. Haslemere station also serves the neighbouring village of Shottermill, about a mile to the west of the station along Wey Hill.
At the north end of the High Street is the Haslemere Education Museum, and on nearby Bridge Road is Haslemere Hall, a concert hall that is also used for theatre productions and film screenings. A short walk from the High Street will bring you to National Trust-owned Swan Barn Farm, a landscape of pasture and woodland that is the starting point for some of Surrey and Sussex's major walking routes, including the 64-mile Serpent Trail.
