Gypsy Lane Railway Station serves Nunthorpe and Marton, suburbs of Middlesbrough, with regular passenger service by Northern on the Esk Valley Line. During daytime off-peak hours, trains from Gypsy Lane travel both directions once an hour. Four trains run to and from Whitby; all other trains run between Newcastle Central and Nunthorpe, save two that operate to Darlington instead of Newcastle. On Sundays, four trains operate in each direction.
Gypsy Lane Railway Station is among Northern’s newer stations, having been opened only in 1976. Recently refreshed during the Tees Valley Metro project, the station now has fully lit waiting shelters, CCTV monitoring across the platform, and a new set of automated announcements that provide train running information. Additional information about arriving and departing services can be obtained from a digital display screen. As there are no ticketing provisions present at the station, passengers should purchase tickets in advance. There is level access to the platform.
