Since 1960, Golf Street train station has been open to serve local residents in the west side of the small town of Carnoustie in Angus, Scotland. The seaside town is also served by the busier Carnoustie station. Carnoustie is most well known as hosting the Open Championship often, at the historic Carnoustie Golf Links course just a few minutes walk from Golf Street station. The station was initially known as Golf Street Halt, but was renamed as Golf Street station in 1983.
Until 1990, there were services running between Dundee and Arbroath here, but these have been discontinued. There is now only one train running per day in each directions, between Monday and Saturday. There are no services from Golf Street on Sundays. All this means the station is infrequently in use. According to the Strategic Rail Authority, there were only 38 passenger entries/exits in 2006-7, making this the 4th least busy station in the U.K. Station facilities are limited as services are sparse, with no ticket machines and no station staff.
