Denton railway station lies just a few miles east of central Manchester along the Stockport-Stalybridge Line and is one of the least used stations in the UK having less than one passenger departing or boarding the train each week on average. This is unsurprising as there is only one train a week which calls at the station on Friday mornings which is nicknamed the “Denton Flyer”. It’s a request stop, so passengers looking to board must signal for the train to stop. It’s a very basic station with step access to two almost unused platforms with bench seating and overhead lighting. No staff work at the station and is maintained and operated by Northern. The only train to depart leaves on Friday mornings at 9.32am on its way direct to Stalybridge in 11 minutes. There are no train services to Stockport.
It might be little used, but there are still some interesting things to do in Denton should you disembark here. Within walking distance you’ll find a large park occupied by the Denton Golf Club and the Fairfield Golf and Sailing Club.
