Dalston railway station lies about 10 miles south-west of Carlisle in Cumbria and serves the little community of Dalston and the surrounding villages. It was opened in the mid-19th century by the Maryport and Carlisle Railway with services commencing the following year. In the late ‘60s, the station became unstaffed and many of the buildings were demolished, but an original waiting shelter still survives. Today, the station’s two platforms are served by the Cumbrian Coast Line and is managed, along with the trains that pass through, by Northern. It’s an unstaffed station with no facilities for purchasing tickets, so travellers are either required to buy them online in advance or onboard the train. Throughout peak times, there is one or two services an hour to Carlisle in 11 minutes and one departure an hour to Maryport in 31 minutes.
When you step off at Dalston, be sure to make a beeline for Dalston Hall Holiday Park & Golf Club where you can practise your swing along the fairways.
