Dagenham Dock railway station lies east of Central London in the Borough of Barking and Dagenham. It’s part of Travelcard Zone 5, so can be used with travel passes anywhere in London including the use of Oyster cards. The station opened at the turn of the 20th century and was used by freighters which served the nearby industrial areas. With regeneration planned for the district, there are proposals to use the station as the terminus for the Docklands Light Railway, though as of 2018, those plans haven’t come to fruition yet. Next door to the station is the Ripple Lane freighter depot which serves the longest single operator train journey in Europe and bring refrigerated produce 1,100 kilometres from Valencia in Spain. Today Dagenham Dock is operated by Network Rail. There are trains every half hour to London Fenchurch Street in 21 minutes.
While this might be an industrial district, there are several excellent parks within walking distance of the station including the Old Dagenham Park and Beam Valley Country Park.
