Trains to Colchester Town
Colchester Town railway station - still known locally as St. Botolph's, its name until 1991 - is the second station serving Colchester town in Essex. Just over fifty miles outside London, the station, is on the Sunshine Coast Line, with trains to the capital taking just over an hour.
Colchester Town is typically served by two trains per hour to Colchester, and one per hour to Walton-on-the-Naze and London Liverpool Street, all leaving from the station's single platform. The station is a five-minute walk south of the thriving town centre packed with independent and well-known restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs and clubs as well as many popular high street shops, in particular in the Lion Walk Shopping Centre. For those not looking to shop, the town, like many in the area, is home to an array of Roman, Tudor and Medieval architecture – most notably Colchester Castle, an 11th century Norman Keep built on top of the vaults of an ancient Roman temple.

Behind the law courts, Colchester Town train station is home to many more amenities than most stations of its size. Its single platform is home to a ticket kiosk, ticket machine, bench seating, customer help points, an enclosed waiting area and a small coffee shop. Parking at the station is limited, located as it is in an area of private and commercial land; however, the station is served by several local bus routes.
