Trains to Chetnole

Chetnole train station which dates from the 1930s may be a small rural 1 platform station but for its tiny size it still sees a relatively lively departure and arrival schedule. Located as it is on the Gloucester to Weymouth route of the Great Western Railway network it sees south-bound trains from Chetnole to Weymouth run 8 times a day. In the other direction towards Gloucester there are 7 departures daily although only 4 of these run direct to Gloucester.

Miniature-sized Chetnole itself has little beyond its Chetnole Inn and a bus service from directly outside the station but Yeovil Town – just a 12 minute train ride from Chetnole – offers plenty of amenities. This rolling-hill countryside surrounded town has, among other attractions, a wealth of historical buildings, a theatre, a country park and a market. A little bigger yet but still close by is coastal located Weymouth – only 35 minutes from Chetnole railway station. This town offers what is generally considered to be one of the south coast's top nightlife spots as well as a host of accommodations ranging from camping to hotels. Other notable direct destinations possible from Chetnole train station include the UNESCO World Heritage-listed city of Bath and Bristol's Temple Mead's station. The Cotswold enveloped cathedral city of Gloucester can be reached in around 2 hours 26 minutes by train from Chetnole station and a variety of easy connections bring places such as Taunton, Plymouth and Weston-super-Mare within reach too.
