Chapeltown train station first opened in 1897 in a district in South Yorkshire, just 12 km north of the city of Sheffield. The station was originally called Chapeltown South. This station provides great links for local Chapeltown residents and offers easy access to the heart of nearby Sheffield. There are direct trains running from this station into the centre of Sheffield twice an hour, reaching the central Sheffield station in just 17 minutes. Sunday services are reduced, with the popular Sheffield service running just hourly then.
Though there isn’t a ticket office or any staff here, tickets can easily be purchased via self-service ticket machines. There are two platforms in this station, each with a sheltered waiting area. The station is situated right in the centre of Chapeltown, walking distance to a host of shops and restaurant, a local park and a cricket ground. Chapeltown station also got some national television coverage in early 2017, when it was featured in an episode of the Great British Railway Journeys, a well known BBC documentary series.
