Trains to Bitterne

Located in eastern Southampton, Bitterne Railway Station serves the Bitterne cluster of suburbs, including Bitterne, Bitterne Manor, Bitterne Park, and Midanbury, with regular South Western Railway service along the main Southampton to Portsmouth coastal line. Trains from Bitterne depart hourly to Southampton Central and Portsmouth and Swansea, calling at all stations on route; many high-speed trains on the Brighton to London line pass through Bitterne but do not stop. Monday through Friday, a single Southern train at 08:34 from Brighton to Southampton Central calls.  

Originally, the line was single-track, and Bitterne’s stretch of double track allowed the station to function as a ’crossing station’ for trains travelling in opposite directions.  The modern Bitterne Station retains two platforms with amenities for both. The station features cycle storage, a station carpark, self-service ticket machines, shelters on both platforms, and customer information points throughout. Step-free access is available to platform 2 (Portsmouth-bound); platform 1 to Southampton is not accessible.
