Located in West Yorkshire, Batley train station serves the town of Batley via Northern’s Huddersfield Line. Only 8 miles southwest of Leeds, Batley was originally constructed along the London and North Western Railway’s main line between Leeds and Huddersfield or Manchester in 1848. Today, trains from Batley depart half-hourly, northbound towards Leeds and southbound towards Huddersfield/Hebden Bridge. Southbound trains to Dewsbury and Mirfield continue to Huddersfield or Manchester Victoria via Brighouse and Todmorden alternately. During the evenings, these services become hourly and run only as far as Leeds and Huddersfield. Sunday services maintain these trains on a two-hourly basis.
The station is somewhat reduced today, with only two platforms serving a single line rather than the 5 platforms and multiple lines it once had. There's no staffed ticket office, although self-service ticket machines are available for customer use. Waiting shelters and seating are available on both platforms, and ramped access is available for the northbound platform 1 only.
