A frequent stop in the Greater Glasgow area about 7 miles southwest of Glasgow Central, Barrhead train station serves the town of Barrhead with service by Abellio ScotRail. First opened in 1848, the station’s original signal box remains in operation today. The station has a staffed ticket office and fully accessible ticket machines, as well as smartcard validators, toilets, waiting rooms and shelters for passenger use. The station is fully accessible with a lift, subways and ramps to each platform.

Currently, Barrhead station's trains run along the Glasgow South Western Line. The station sees 3 trains per hour to and from Glasgow Central (calling at Crossmyloof, Pollokshaws West, Kennishead, Priesthill, and Darnley and Nitshill), as well as 1 train per hour to Kilmarnock, and 6 trains per day to Carlisle (3 of which continue to Newcastle). On Sundays, trains call each way to Glasgow and Kilmarnock on an hourly basis.
