Tucked in the north of the city of Chester, Bache train station serves the wider Bache area with Merseyrail services to the city and northbound to other destinations. The first stop along the Wirral Line for services leaving the city, Bache is one of only four unstaffed rail stations in the Merseyrail network. Many passengers alight at Bache for the Countess of Chester Hospital and Chester Zoo, which are served by frequent bus connections.
During the week, trains depart Bache train station every 15 minutes south towards Chester and north towards Liverpool via Hooton, Rock Ferry, and Birkenhead Central. During the evening and on Sundays, this service becomes half-hourly. As the station is unstaffed, passengers may purchase tickets from self-service ticket machines. Both platforms have waiting shelters with seating, departure and arrival screens, and step-free access. Although, step-free interchange from platform 1 to platform 2 isn't available without first exiting the station.
