The solidly attractive yellow-brick station buildings at Audley End welcome travellers to the leafy Essex village of Wenden Ambo, but this is also the railway connection for the larger town of Saffron Walden. Trains to Audley End include regular services to Cambridge and London Liverpool Street, as well as hourly connections to Stansted Airport and Birmingham New Street via Peterborough and Leicester.

The station is named after Audley End House, a 17th-century manor house that is a few miles north of the station, between the railway and Saffron Walden. The house and gardens are open daily for visits, and there is a nearby miniature railway that runs through the grounds.

Have a wander around Saffron Walden High Street and the surrounding streets, where you will find the main shops and services of the town as well as the Tourist Information Office, is linked to the station via a twelve-minute bus ride.

First Class Lounge

The station buildings, where you will find the ticket office, toilets and a newsagent, lead directly onto platform 1 for trains to London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport. Platform 2, for trains to Cambridge and Birmingham, is reached via two footbridges, one of which has lifts for step-free access. There are waiting rooms on both platforms, and ticket machines on platform 1. The bus, for connections to Saffron Walden, departs from the station forecourt.
