Ashtead station opened in 1858 as part of the London and South Western Railway, but very little remains of the original structure, with the current station buildings opened in 2013. Regular services to Ashtead include trains to London Victoria (via Sutton) and London Waterloo (via Wimbledon), as well as services to Dorking and Guildford. Travellers to Ashtead arrive in leafy surroundings to the north of the town, close to Ashtead Common, a national nature reserve, and, for more open expanse could head south to Ashtead Park
The historic centre of the town is the area around The Street, where you will find not only the main shops and services of Ashtead but also a number of listed buildings, some of which - such as the Old Rectory - date back to the 18th century. The town centre is a little under a mile from the station and is a thirteen-minute walk past the cricket ground.
