Situated a few miles away from Wigan Wallgate, Appley Bridge Railway Station connects the villages of Appley Bridge and Shevington with Greater Manchester via the Manchester-Southport Line. Monday through Saturday trains to Appley Bridge station run twice an hour with westbound services to Southport and eastbound to Wigan. Some services continue past Wigan to Manchester Victoria, Manchester Piccadilly, and Manchester Airport. After 19:30, trains continue running on an hourly basis. On Sundays, trains from Appley Bridge run hourly to Southport and Stockport via Manchester Piccadilly.
First opened in 1885, the original stone Appley Bridge station is a Grade II listed property and is no longer in use. The current station is unmanned, and passengers may purchase tickets from a ticket machine in the station. There is step-free access available to both platforms, and information about trains to Appley Bridge is available through both phone and timetable posters. Rail replacement buses pick up and drop off from the stops on Appley Lane North, close to the station approach road.
