Anderston train station is located in Glasgow’s financial district. It also serves parts of the Anderston Centre and Anderston West. Frequent train services link the station with Glasgow Central and the wider area: for example, Dalmuir is a 21 minute journey, Larkhall is 42 minutes away, and some trains from Anderston to Motherwell take just 32 minutes.

The Anderson district, on the north bank of the River Clyde and the south west of Glasgow City Centre, was once known as Bishop's Forest. In 1450 it was given by King James II of Scotland to the Bishop of Glasgow. Today, Anderston is bisected by the M4 motorway and home to the Glasgow Hilton and Marriot Hotels, which are also within easy reach of the train station.

The two lines at Anderston train station run either side of an underground island platform which is accessed by steps leading up to a staffed ticket office and concourse. There is seating for passengers on the platform.
