Abergele and Pensarn Train Station connect the small town of Abergele and the beach resort Pensarn to the rest of the North Wales coast. The station is situated in the suburb of Pensarn, on the North Wales Coast Line which extends from Crewe to Holyhead.
Opened in 1848, the station gained infamy in 1868 as the location on one of the worst railway disasters in Britain. A train carrying mail and passenger collided with an unmanned goods van which has come loose on the tracks. The line has been reconfigured since this time and the railway loops which served the station removed.
The attractive brick buildings at Abergele and Pensarn train station are no longer in use, but the station has two platforms with sheltered waiting areas and payphones. The station is unstaffed; tickets must be purchased in advance or from the conductor on the train. Trains from Abergele and Pensarn to Manchester and Llandudno depart hourly during the week, with less frequent services to Crewe and Holyhead. The fastest service to Llandudno takes 23 minutes and Manchester can be reached in 1 hour 46 minutes.
