Berwick-upon-Tweed station lies in the former grounds of Berwick Castle, with the castle’s old west wall marking the boundary of the now-defunct station goods yard.

On the north bank of the River Tweed, the station is close to Berwick’s picturesque town centre, which retains its medieval walls, and a few miles west of the dramatic Northumberland coast.

First opened in 1847, Berwick upon Tweed station was originally built for services to Newcastle and Edinburgh. Today it runs regular services southbound to London Kings Cross, and northbound into Scotland, calling at Aberdeen, Glasgow and Inverness.

It's the most northerly station on the English rail network – Berwick itself is only a few miles south of the country’s most northerly point. In fact, so close is Berwick to the England-Scotland border that it repeatedly changed hands between the two countries for hundreds of years, before being decisively claimed by England in 1482.
