Yes, digital Season tickets are available for Weekly, Monthly and Flexi Season tickets. On selected routes, you may also be able to buy digital Annual Season Tickets. The digital Season ticket lives in your Trainline app, so there’s no need to queue for a paper ticket at the ticket office.

Generally, it’s cheaper to buy a digital Season ticket than individual tickets. If you’re taking the train four or more days a week, a digital Weekly Season Ticket can often be cheaper than buying four Anytime Day Return tickets every day. If you’re taking the train five or more days a week, a digital Monthly Season Ticket is usually much cheaper than buying four Weekly Season Tickets.

Currently, there is not a digital Season ticket for students. However, if you have a 16-17 Saver, you can use it to save 50% on your Season ticket. 

No, unfortunately you can’t use a Railcard with a digital Season ticket, as you’ll already be saving money compared to buying tickets every day. However, there are a few exceptions. For example, if you have a 16-17 Saver, you can use it to take 50% off your Season ticket. Other exceptions include: Highland Railcards, Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card, TfW 18 Saver Railcard, TfW Student Railcard, Valleys Student Railcard and Young Scot National Entitlement Card. These can be applied on selected journeys in their area of validity (for example, a TfW Student Railcard gets you a discount on Season tickets in Wales only). When asked by rail staff, you must show a valid ticket and your valid Railcard signed by you (plus your Railcard Photocard if required).

You can use a digital Season ticket on most short and medium distance journeys on the National Rail network. Unless the ticket says it can only be used on a specific train company, digital Season tickets are valid on all train operators on the route within the zones for which the ticket is issued.

With a digital Season ticket, you’ll can travel between two stations as many times as you like. It doesn't matter if you take the train at a Peak or Off-Peak time, you can use it to travel at any time during the day.

You can travel in First Class with a digital Season ticket - but only if you have a First Class digital Season ticket. To view options for a First Class digital Season tickets, search for your digital Season ticket and select "First Class" under "Ticket Options". But, it's worth noting that not all trains have First Class seats and you should double-check with your train operator before purchasing a First Class digital Season ticket.

If your digital Season ticket includes at least 1 train station located in London, it's possible that it includes a Travelcard, which gives you unlimited travel within specific London zones. Please note that not every digital Season ticket including a London station will include a Travelcard. Yes, for many digital Season tickets you’ll need to carry a separate photocard with you. You must show both your Season ticket and photocard when asked for your ticket to be valid. You can either request a photocard free of charge from us by filling in this form or take a passport-sized photo to your local ticket office and they’ll make you one for free.
