Planning a day trip to the Amalfi Coast? Why not take the train from Salerno to the Amalfi Coast – you’ll be enjoying spectacular coastal views before you know it!
As there’s only one train station on the Amalfi Coast – it’s in Vietri sul Mare – you’ll need to stop there and then continue your journey through the other coastal towns. The average journey time by train between Salerno and Vietri sul Mare-Amalfi is only 8 minutes, with around 39 trains per day. The route from Salerno to the Amalfi Coast is served by Trenitalia’s regional trains, which depart from Salerno’s main station in the old town centre, and arrive into Vietri sul Mare, the gateway to the Amalfi Coast.
As Vietri sul Mare station is not centrally located, you’ll need to take one of the local buses to the town centre. Make sure you stop by the church of San Giovanni Battista, which stands out for its colourful majolica – it’s also the symbol of the city!
From Vietri sul Mare, it’s easy to reach the other towns on the Amalfi Coast – simply hop on one of the SITA SUD buses and you’ll be able to get to Maiori, Minori and Amalfi in no time.

At the moment, a restaurant service is not available on Trenitalia's regional trains. However, you can take your own food on board so pick up some snacks at the station before you set off.
Trenitalia's regional trains do not offer an entertainment portal on board. However, you can make use of your internet data, as well as charge your devices thanks to the power sockets that are available at your seat.

Most of the train companies across Europe release their tickets around three to six months in advance, many of which can be cheaper the earlier you book. If you know the dates you want to travel, you may be able to find some cheaper train tickets from Salerno to Vietri sul Mare-Amalfi by booking early.§
Many of the train services in Europe are also popular commuter services, lots of train companies increase ticket prices during “peak hours” (generally between 06:00 – 10:00 and 15:00 – 19:00 on weekdays). If you can, consider travelling outside of peak hours to find lower priced tickets.
