Travelling from Bologna to Ravenna with Trenitalia

Last December, I went on a day trip from Bologna to Ravenna with 3 of my friends. We took one of Trenitalia’s fast regional trains from Bologna Centrale station at around 09:00 and arrived in Ravenna after 2 and a half hours.

Boarding our train from Bologna Centrale station

Finding our train at Bologna Centrale station was a breeze thanks to the clear signage available. We decided to get to the train station at least 20 minutes in advance to make sure we had enough time to reach our platform.

As we were travelling on Trenitalia’s regional train, we were not assigned a seat, so we sat down as soon as we found 4 seats available together.

The train journey from Bologna to Ravenna

Clean interior of Trenitalia regional train

Despite travelling in Second Class, I was surprised by the quality of the services offered on board. The carriage was very clean, and the train itself seemed relatively new, which added to our comfort and enjoyment. The spacious seats provided ample room to relax during the journey, and the luggage storage facilities ensured our belongings were safely stowed away.

Arriving in Ravenna

We arrived in Ravenna after 2 and a half hours, with no delays. The train station is quite small, so we got outside pretty quickly and followed the signs to reach Ravenna's famous mosaic sites, including Basilica di San Vitale, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, and the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo.

Overall, our experience on the Trenitalia regional train exceeded our expectations, setting the tone for a fantastic day of exploration and discovery in Ravenna.
