If you’ve ever felt like you were born in the wrong era, you’re in the right place.

Sure, Wednesday Addams might be a fictional character, but the eerie, gothic vibes of her world are very much real, and they’re waiting for you in Romania.

Come along with us on a kooky tour of the real-life locations that brought Netflix’s Wednesday to life! No Ouija board needed.

Wednesday Season 1 filming locations in Romania

So, Wednesday Addams might live in a fictional Vermont, but in reality, Romania is where the magic — or should we say, the mystique — happens. The country’s got everything from creepy castles to misty forests that look like they’re straight out of a Tim Burton movie. Here’s where you can get your goth on and visit the real-life spots from Season 1 of Wednesday.

Cantacuzino Castle, Bușteni

Welcome to Nevermore Academy, where all the creepy kids hang out. In real life, this is Cantacuzino Castle in the mountain town of Bușteni. Built in 1911 for Romanian royalty, this place is a mix of Gothic, Baroque, and all things shadowy. It’s also open to the public, so you can stroll around pretending you’re late for botany class with Wednesday. And hey, there’s even an art gallery inside — because why not mix culture with your chills?

Bucharest Botanical Garden, Bucharest

Remember those greenhouse scenes where the students were learning about deadly plants? Those were filmed at the Bucharest Botanical Garden. This place is way less dangerous in real life — unless you’re allergic to flowers. It’s a huge garden with over 17 hectares of greenery, perfect for a peaceful (or eerie) walk. Just maybe steer clear of any plants that look a little too carnivorous.

Buftea Studios, Bucharest

Not everything you see in Wednesday is a real location — some of it was built from scratch at Buftea Studios. This is where the town of Jericho and the inside of Nevermore Academy came to life. Sadly, you can’t visit the studios, but you can tip your hat to the magic of set design.

Casa Niculescu-Dorobantu, Bucharest

Another Bucharest beauty, Casa Niculescu-Dorobantu, was used for even more of Nevermore’s interior scenes. Think stained-glass windows and a grand staircase that seems to lead into a liminal space. If you’re into dark academia vibes, this place is your jam.

Casa Monteoru, Bucharest

This historic mansion is where the interior shots of Nevermore Academy were filmed. Casa Monteoru is all about lavish decor and ornate rooms that scream elegance with a dash of supernatural. Built in 1874, it’s now a cultural center and the perfect spot to channel your inner Wednesday while sipping a strong cup of coffee. Black coffee, of course.

Conacul Olga Greceanu Mansion, Bălteni

This abandoned mansion was perfect for some of the spookiest scenes in Season 1. The crew did an amazing job of making it look even creepier, but it’s pretty freaky on its own. If you’re brave enough, you can visit and relive some of Wednesday’s most intense moments — just maybe bring a friend, you know, for moral support.

Gara Regala, Sinaia

This royal train station plays the role of Burlington Train Station in the show. Once reserved for Romanian royalty, this station’s vintage charm makes it the perfect place to start — or finish — a strange adventure.

Possible Wednesday Season 2 filming locations in Ireland

Nothing is confirmed, but here are a few spots in Ireland that would be perfect for Wednesday’s next adventures.

Ashford Castle, County Mayo (Republic of Ireland)

This five-star castle hotel is the stuff of gothic nightmares dreams. It’s got history, it’s got ghosts (probably), and it’s ready to be the next Nevermore Academy.

The Dark Hedges, County Antrim (Northern Ireland)

This mysterious avenue of twisted trees looks like it was made for a Tim Burton movie. Wednesday would totally approve of the vibe here.

Kylemore Abbey, County Galway (Republic of Ireland)

This gorgeous neo-Gothic castle and abbey, perched in front of mountains and gazing out over a lake, has the kind of mystical charm that has “Addams Family hangout” written all over it.

Kilruddery House and Gardens, County Wicklow (Republic of Ireland)

Known for its Elizabethan-style mansion and extensive gardens, Kilruddery has already been used as a filming location for productions like The Tudors and Far and Away. Its grand yet slightly decaying appearance could be a great setting for Wednesday’s dark adventures.

Charleville Castle, County Offaly (Republic of Ireland)

Often cited as one of Ireland’s most haunted castles, Charleville Castle is a Gothic Revival masterpiece with a long history of ghostly sightings, making it an ideal backdrop for the spooky world of Wednesday.

Cahir Castle, County Tipperary (Republic of Ireland)

One of Ireland’s largest and best-preserved castles, Cahir Castle’s imposing structure and medieval atmosphere would make it an excellent setting for an unnerving and mysterious storyline.

Muckross House, County Kerry (Republic of Ireland)

Located in Killarney National Park, this Victorian mansion has a stately and somewhat unsettling charm, especially when viewed against the misty backdrop of the surrounding mountains and lakes.

Ross Castle, County Kerry (Republic of Ireland)

Situated on the shores of Lough Leane, Ross Castle’s atmospheric location makes it a perfect candidate for a haunted residence or dark academy in the world of Wednesday.

Leap Castle, County Offaly (Republic of Ireland)

Often called the most haunted castle in Ireland, Leap Castle is known for its ghoulish history and numerous ghost stories. Its unnerving ambiance would be a perfect fit for the Addams Family’s unique blend of humor and horror.

Glendalough, County Wicklow (Republic of Ireland)

This ancient monastic site, with its round towers and ruined churches set in a remote valley, offers an evocative and otherworldly setting that could add depth to Wednesday’s story.

Dunluce Castle, County Antrim (Northern Ireland)

Dunluce Castle’s dramatic cliff-top location and ruins make it an ideal setting for a gothic horror story, especially one as twisted as Wednesday’s.

Birr Castle, County Offaly (Republic of Ireland)

Known for its impressive science museum and gardens, Birr Castle also has a striking Gothic facade that is practically begging to be the next setting for Wednesday’s adventures.

Belleek Castle, County Mayo (Republic of Ireland)

This neo-Gothic gem isn’t just a pretty face; it’s got a basement banquet hall straight out of a spooky fairytale and a Spanish Armada bar that’ll make you feel like a pirate ghost is about to pop by for a pint.

Slane Castle, County Meath (Republic of Ireland)

Rock legends have graced its grounds, but Slane Castle has more than just musical history — how about a bit of Halloween history too? Nestled in the heart of Ireland’s ancient Samhain celebrations, it’s the ideal spot for Wednesday’s cello solos under the full moon.

Lough Tay, County Wicklow (Republic of Ireland)

Also known as the “Guinness Lake” (yep, it’s as dark as a pint of the black stuff), Lough Tay is surrounded by misty mountains and moody skies. If Wednesday is going to get lost in thought — or lost in general — there’s no better place for brooding in style.

Ardmore Studios, County Wicklow (Republic of Ireland)

With a résumé that includes Penny Dreadful and Braveheart, Ardmore Studios has seen its fair share of drama — and is probably due for a dose of the macabre.

Who first created The Addams Family?

The Addams Family didn’t just pop out of the crypt — they were created by cartoonist Charles Addams way back in 1938. His darkly humorous cartoons in The New Yorker introduced the world to this delightfully weird family, and the rest is history.

Who created Netflix’s Wednesday?

Tim Burton, the king of all things weird and wonderful, is the mastermind behind Netflix’s Wednesday. Burton served as an executive producer and directed four episodes in Season 1, bringing his signature gothic style to the show and making it a visual treat for all the dark souls out there.

Who originally played Wednesday?

Before Jenna Ortega nailed the role, Wednesday Addams was first brought to life by Lisa Loring in the original 1964 TV series The Addams Family. Loring’s portrayal of Wednesday set the tone for the character’s deadpan humor and hair-raising charm, paving the way for all the future Wednesdays.

What happens in Wednesday Season 1?

Season 1 of Wednesday is all about our favorite goth girl navigating the strange and supernatural world of Nevermore Academy. Between solving a murder mystery, dealing with a creepy prophecy, and perfecting her deadpan one-liners, Wednesday’s first semester at Nevermore is anything but boring. Oh, and let’s not forget that epic dance scene that broke the internet.
